We’ve talked about WIDOWER before on here, and it’s an easy agreement by all that the music made by Kevin Large is something significant. Mama Bird Recording Co has picked up their latest album and it is due out for release July 30th – and if you haven’t heard it, you need to.
Fool Moon delivered on the promise made by the first single. The album is fragile folk songs in part, ones that are ripe with incredible writing. You?ll also find rambling Americana in the others, with instrumentation that picks up the album?s canter and really provides a balance that feels unintentional.
I honestly don?t know much about Kevin Large as a person, and sometimes I wish I knew more. Everything I do know about him is pulled from his music, of which you can easily hear how he has fully poured his self into the tracks. It’s a magnificent snapshot of a time spent dealing with a break-up, all the thought and processes he went through during that time period now laid out on eight songs of staggering size.
This is an album that requires time well spent to full appreciate – not to say you won’t enjoy it during the first listen, I promise you will. But more so it prove to provide a perspective shift, seeing the music through your own emotions as well as the man behind the chords and lyrics. There are facets that you’ll have to uncover and process for yourself, and it’ll be mighty terrific.
